Why is my phone’s hotspot not working?
Last updated 07/03/2025

There are a few reasons why your phone might not be able to hotspot. Check to see if any of these are the problem:

Check for updates. Your phone might need an operating system update to resolve certain connectivity issues.

- On Androids: Go to Settings > System > System updates and tap Check for update.

- On iPhones: Go to Settings > General > Software Update and follow the prompts to install any available updates.

Make sure you’ve enabled hotspotting on your phone.

- On Androids: Go to Settings > Network & internet > Hotspot & tethering and switch on the WiFi hotspot.

- On iPhones: Open Settings > Mobile Data > Personal Hotspot or Settings > Personal Hotspot, then toggle the switch next to Allow Others to Join.

Only allow one device to hotspot from you at a time. Having many devices using your hotspot can drastically slow down data speed.

Turn off airplane mode. Airplane mode automatically switches off any networking features, including hotspotting. A quick “on and off” of airplane mode might fix your hotspot issue.

- On Androids: Go to Settings > Network & internet then switch on Airplane mode for a few seconds before switching it off.

- On iPhones: Go to Settings > tap on Airplane Mode for a few seconds then tap it off so that the green bar disappears.

“Forget” the hotspot network. Remove and reconnect to the hotspot from the device you want to connect.

Restart your phone and the hotspot device. Simply turning both devices off and on again can refresh data settings and resolve connectivity issues.

Turn off battery saver. Battery saver mode might be disabling your networking features.

- On Androids: Go to Settings > Battery > Battery saver and turn off battery conservation.

- On iPhones: Go to Settings > Battery and toggle off Low Power Mode.

Check that you have enough data. Your mobile data slows to 1.5Mbps when you run out which will slow down your hotspot. Check your data balance on the felix app.

Check that you have signal, and that data works on your phone. Poor reception can affect your hotspot connection. Check the coverage map to help determine signal strength in your current location.

Please note: If you’re able to use your data on your phone but can’t use it when hotspotting other devices, there might be a compatibility issue between the devices.

All felix mobile plans are specially designed for mobile phones. Even though you can hotspot other devices with your felix connection, your felix data is meant for your phone.
